E911 Emergency Service Account Center

ChiliTech Digital Voice offers Enhanced 911 (E911) emergency service, but there are differences between Digital Voice E911 service and traditional 911 service.

When you activate a new ChiliTech Digital Voice line, you will be required to supply a 911 service address before making or receiving any calls. The 911 service address will allow ChiliTech to route emergency calls to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). The 911 service address will also enable emergency service personnel to know your physical location during a 911 call even if you are unable to verbally provide that information to the operator.

Please be sure that you fully understand the following information:

  • You must keep your 911 service address updated to reflect the physical location of your Digital Voice service. ChiliTech Digital Voice service is portable - it can be used from any location with broadband Internet access. For this reason, ChiliTech is unable to automatically determine the geographic source of a 911 call. If you move your Digital Voice service to a location other than the 911 service address that you have provided to us, then you should not dial 911 because your call may not be routed to the proper PSAP. In addition, emergency personnel may be incorrectly sent to the 911 service address instead of your actual location.
  • If you intend to use your ChiliTech Digital Voice service away from your normal location, please update your 911 service address to the new location to ensure that emergency service will be available to you. Changing your 911 service address is easy - just visit the Account Center and click on the "911 Address" link in the Digital Voice details section. Please note that it takes up to 48 hours to activate any changes to your 911 service address. Dial 933 on your Digital Voice line to verify the active 911 service address for your account.
  • Availability of 911 emergency service is completely dependent upon a properly operating Digital Voice service. Power outages, malfunctioning or improperly configured customer devices, or disruptions of your broadband Internet service could prevent you from making 911 emergency calls using your ChiliTech Digital Voice service. To minimize the likelihood of an outage, do not attempt to modify the configuration of your device, and report any device malfunctions immediately. Additionally, connecting your broadband cable/DSL/wireless modem, router, and Digital Voice device to a battery backup will help guard against loss of your Digital Voice service due to power outages.
  • Always be sure to have an alternate method of accessing emergency service. It's always a good idea to make sure that you have either a landline phone or cellular phone that can be used to make a 911 emergency call if there is a disruption to your ChiliTech Digital Voice service.

Please refer to the Digital Voice Terms of Service for other important limitations and considerations regarding 911 emergency service.
