What is
ChiliTech Digital Voice?
ChiliTech Digital Voice will reshape the way you think
about phone service. Using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology with your broadband
Internet connection, you can save tons of money on your local, long distance,
and international phone calls. Plus, every ChiliTech Digital Voice service is
packed with free features that simply can't be matched by traditional phone
service.
How does
ChiliTech Digital Voice work?
ChiliTech Digital Voice works over the broadband Internet
connection in your home or business (DSL, Cable, Broadband Wireless, etc).
Simply connect the provided device to your broadband connection, and in minutes
you can be making phone calls over the Internet - and saving money! In addition
to being able to use the same phones used for traditional phone service, you
are able to call anywhere in the world, and also receive calls from anyone!
How do I
register for ChiliTech Digital Voice?
To activate new service, give us a call at (866) 782-4454.
What is the
difference between broadband phone service and traditional landline phone
service?
Traditional landline phone service is brought into your
home or business on a separate wire that connects you directly to the Public
Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). ChiliTech Digital Voice connects you to the
PSTN through your existing broadband Internet connection, which allows you to
combine the advantages of connecting to the PSTN with greatly reduced costs and
cutting-edge features. Additionally, ChiliTech Digital Voice service is
portable - it can be used from any location with a broadband Internet
connection! Because you can take your Digital Voice service with you when you
travel, 911 service functions differently than it does with regular landline
phone service. For more information on the E911 service provided with ChiliTech
Digital Voice services, please visit our E911 information page.
Can I transfer
my current telephone number?
Yes, in many cases you will able to transfer your current
number to your Digital Voice service. When you sign up, let us know that you
would like to transfer your number. If we are able to transfer the number, we
will begin a process called "number porting" at that time.
Please note that it may take up to 30 days to port your phone number from
another phone company. If you would like to receive incoming phone calls before
the porting process for your current number is complete, you may request a
temporary phone number from us. VERY IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE PORTING A NUMBER, DO
NOT CANCEL YOUR CURRENT PHONE SERVICE UNTIL YOU ARE NOTIFIED THAT THE PORTING
HAS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY! Canceling your current phone service before
the porting process is complete could cause you to lose the number that is
being ported.
How do I
transfer my current telephone number my ChiliTech Digital Voice service?
When you sign up for ChiliTech Digital Voice, please
mention that you would like to port your existing phone number to our service.
You will need to fill out a Letter of Authorization (LOA), which we will
provide to you in your welcome packet. You will also need to provide us with a
copy of your current local telephone bill. Be sure to read the LOA document
thoroughly as it does include very important information regarding this
process.
During the porting process, we can provide you with a temporary phone number if
you wish to receive incoming calls immediately.
Where can I
check the status of my number transfer?
You can monitor the progress of the number porting process
by logging in to the Account Center at
https://www.chilitech.net/AccountCenter. In the Account Center, you
will also be able to access features and settings for your ChiliTech Digital
Voice service.
Will the
Digital Voice service work on every phone jack throughout my home?
ChiliTech Digital Voice can be set up to work with a single
phone, or it can be made available to every jack in your house. You may either
connect one phone directly to the Digital Voice device, or you can connect the
device into your home phone wiring system (AFTER making sure that you have
disconnected your current phone service). All of the phones in your house
will then be connected to your ChiliTech Digital Voice service.
Do I need to
purchase any additional equipment for my Digital Voice service?
The only device that you will need to purchase, if you do
not own one already, is a router.
Can I use my
existing router with the ChiliTech Digital Voice device?
Yes, you can either connect the adapter to an available
port on your existing router, or you can connect the adapter to your
cable/DSL/wireless device.
What if I
have a DSL broadband Internet connection?
A DSL broadband Internet connection works with ChiliTech
Digital Voice, but please be aware that most DSL services are considered a
feature on your current telephone line. If you disconnect your current
telephone service or attempt to port that number to our service, then you may
lose the DSL service. Please check with your DSL provider prior to
disconnecting your current phone service to find out if you will be able to
keep the DSL service by itself.
If you intend to use your ChiliTech Digital Voice service as a secondary phone
line in addition to your current phone service, then you do not have to worry
about losing your DSL service.
Does
ChiliTech Digital Voice work with a dial-up modem?
No, you must have a broadband Internet connection, such as
broadband wireless, DSL, or cable.
If I lose
power in my home will I still be able to use the service?
Unless you supply a battery backup or UPS device to power
your equipment, you will not be able to use your ChiliTech Digital Voice
service during a power outage. Please visit our E911
information page for important considerations regarding the
availability of 911 emergency service during power or broadband service
outages.
Do I need to
keep my computer on in order to use my phone?
No. The ChiliTech Digital Voice device does not use your
computer, so your phone service will continue to work even when your computer
is off.
Does
ChiliTech Digital Voice work with any phone?
ChiliTech Digital Voice works with any type of touch-tone
telephone. Older style rotary phones will not work.
