Is 911
emergency service available with ChiliTech Digital Voice?
Yes, ChiliTech Digital Voice offers Enhanced 911 (E911)
emergency service, but there are differences between Digital Voice E911 service
and traditional 911 service. Please visit the E911 information
page for important information regarding those differences.
How do I make
a 911 call?
Once you have set up your E911 address information in the
Account Center, you can simply dial 911 for emergencies.
In general,
how is E911 emergency service different from Basic 911 service?
Basic 911 service routes emergency calls to the appropriate
Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), but caller information must be verbally
given to the 911 operator by the caller. With Enhanced 911 (E911) service,
caller information, such as the caller's name, phone number and geographic
location, are automatically displayed to the 911 operator. E911 service makes
it possible for emergency service personnel to be dispatched even if the caller
is unable to speak to the 911 operator.
Although E911 emergency service is a standard feature with all ChiliTech
Digital Voice services, it is important to note that there are differences
between VoIP E911 service and traditional landline E911 service. Please visit
the E911 information page for important information
regarding those differences.
How do I
update my E911 service address?
Updating your E911 service address is easy - simply log in
to the Account
Center and click on the "911 Address" link in the Digital Voice details
section. You may also call Customer Support at (866) 782-4454 to change your
E911 service address. Please note that it takes up to 48 hours to activate a
change to your E911 service address. Dial 933 from your Digital Voice line to
verify the active E911 service address for your account.
Can I "opt
out" of E911 emergency service?
No. New regulations by the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) require that E911 emergency service be provided to all users
of VoIP services, such as ChiliTech Digital Voice. For general public safety
reasons, the new regulations specifically prohibit the ability of customers to
"opt out" of E911 emergency service.
